Public transport in Paris

Paris has an extensive and reliable public transport system, which includes the subway (metro), buses, trams, and trains (RER).

  • The metro is usually the fastest way to move around the city, with frequent stations and trains running from around 5:30 am until about 1:15 am (and until 2:15 am on Fridays and Saturdays).
  • For longer distances, especially to and from airports or suburbs, the RER is very useful (e.g. RER B for Charles de Gaulle Airport).

We strongly recommend downloading the “Bonjour RATP” app on your phone. It provides real-time updates on all public transport in Paris (subway, RER, buses, trams), helps you plan your journeys easily, and allows you to purchase and store tickets directly on your phone, making travel around the city much more convenient.
